Trusting God is one of the core foundations of faith, yet it’s something many of us struggle with. When life gets tough, when prayers seem unanswered, or when the future feels uncertain, trusting God can feel impossible.
But have you ever considered that the reason it’s hard to trust God is because you don’t know Him enough?
Think about it: We find it easier to trust people we know well—those who have proven their love, reliability, and faithfulness. But if God still feels distant or unfamiliar, trust won’t come naturally.
The good news? God wants you to know Him. And the more you know Him, the easier it becomes to trust Him.
1. You Can’t Trust Someone You Don’t Know
If a stranger walked up to you and said, “Give me all your savings. I promise I’ll take care of you,” would you do it? Probably not!
Why? Because you don’t know them.
Trust is built on relationship. The same applies to God—if we don’t know Him, we won’t trust Him.
📖 Psalm 9:10 (KJV)
“And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.”
The key phrase here is “they that know thy name.” When you truly know who God is—His character, His promises, and His love—trust follows naturally.
2. How Can You Get to Know God?
A. Through His Word
The Bible isn’t just a book—it’s God revealing Himself to us. Every page teaches us about who He is and how He works.
📖 Romans 10:17 (KJV)
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
The more you read, the more you’ll see:
✔ God is faithful (Deuteronomy 7:9).
✔ God is a provider (Philippians 4:19).
✔ God is a protector (Psalm 46:1).
✔ God is loving and merciful (Lamentations 3:22-23).
The more you learn about Him, the easier it becomes to trust Him.
B. Through Prayer
Prayer isn’t just about asking God for things—it’s about building a relationship with Him. When you talk to Him daily, you begin to experience His presence in a personal way.
📖 Jeremiah 33:3 (KJV)
“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”
If you struggle to trust Him, ask Him to reveal Himself to you. He is always ready to draw near.
C. Through Experience
Trust grows when you see God working in your life. Start small:
- Recall past blessings—ways He has provided for you before.
- Look at answered prayers—even the ones you may have forgotten about.
- Keep a faith journal—write down moments when you saw His hand at work.
📖 Psalm 34:8 (KJV)
“O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.”
The more you experience His goodness, the easier trust becomes.
3. What Happens When You Know Him?
Once you truly know God, here’s what changes:
✅ Fear fades. You realize He is in control.
✅ Worry decreases. You trust that He provides.
✅ Faith grows. You start believing in His promises.
✅ Obedience becomes easier. You know He has your best in mind.
📖 Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV)
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
Knowing God means you no longer have to lean on your own understanding—you can confidently trust in His wisdom and His plans.
A Journey Worth Taking
If you struggle to trust God, don’t be discouraged—it simply means you need to know Him more. And that’s an invitation, not a burden.
He wants you to seek Him, to draw near, and to discover just how faithful He really is. Will you take the first step?
