We often see brokenness as something to be ashamed of, something to hide. But what if our brokenness is exactly where God’s light shines the brightest? Just like a cracked vessel lets light escape, our wounds, weaknesses, and failures can become the very places where God’s grace is most visible.
📖 Psalm 34:18 (KJV)
“The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”
One of the most powerful biblical examples of God using brokenness is the story of Gideon.
Gideon: A Broken Vessel Chosen by God
When God called Gideon to lead Israel against the Midianites, Gideon didn’t feel capable. He saw himself as weak, unqualified, and unworthy.
📖 Judges 6:15 (KJV)
“Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.”
✔ Gideon saw his brokenness as a reason to disqualify himself.
✔ But God saw his brokenness as an opportunity for His power to shine.
And how did God demonstrate this? Through broken vessels.
The Power of Broken Jars
Before the battle, God told Gideon’s army to use an unusual strategy: torches hidden inside clay pitchers.
📖 Judges 7:20 (KJV)
“And the three companies blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands.”
✔ The light was hidden inside the jars until they were broken.
✔ Once the jars shattered, the light shone brightly, confusing the enemy and leading to victory.
Had the jars remained whole, the light would have stayed hidden. The breaking was necessary for victory.
God Uses Our Brokenness for His Glory
Like Gideon’s jars, our pain, failures, and struggles may feel like weaknesses, but they can actually become the places where God’s glory shines the most.
1. Brokenness Makes Us Depend on God
📖 2 Corinthians 12:9 (KJV)
“My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”
✔ When we are weak, we rely more on God’s strength.
✔ God doesn’t need our perfection—He needs our surrender.
2. Brokenness Allows God’s Light to Shine
📖 Matthew 5:16 (KJV)
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
✔ Our struggles can be a testimony of God’s power.
✔ He doesn’t just heal our wounds—He uses them for His glory.
3. Brokenness Leads to Restoration
📖 Isaiah 61:3 (KJV)
“To give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.”
✔ God doesn’t leave us broken—He transforms us.
✔ What seems like a mess today can become a message of hope tomorrow.
Let God’s Light Shine Through You
Just like Gideon’s jars, we are most effective when we allow God to use our brokenness. Instead of hiding your pain, let God use it as a vessel for His glory.
📖 Psalm 51:17 (KJV)
“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.”
✔ Your brokenness isn’t the end—it’s the beginning of God’s work in you.
✔ Let your light shine, even through the cracks.
God doesn’t discard broken people—He uses them. Will you let Him use you today? 💡✨
