In a world where love is often conditional and based on performance, many people struggle to believe they are truly loved. We ask ourselves:
👉 Am I worthy?
👉 Do I have to prove myself?
👉 Will I still be loved if I fail?
But God’s love doesn’t work that way. His love isn’t based on how good we are—it’s based on who He is. Romans 5:8 (KJV) reveals this incredible truth:
📖 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
This verse reminds us that God’s love came first—before we ever repented, before we ever did anything to deserve it. Let’s explore what this means for our lives today.
1. God’s Love Is Proven, Not Just Spoken
“But God commendeth his love toward us…”
The word “commendeth” means to demonstrate or prove. God didn’t just say He loves us—He showed it.
Many people say “I love you,” but their actions don’t always back it up. God’s love is different. He proved it in the most powerful way possible: by giving His Son to die for us.
John 3:16 (KJV) confirms this:
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son…”
God’s love isn’t just words—it’s action. He went to the greatest lengths to show you how much you mean to Him.
2. God Loved Us at Our Worst
“While we were yet sinners…”
Human love is often conditional. People love us when we are kind, successful, or when we meet their expectations. But God’s love is different—He loved us when we were at our worst.
This means:
✔ Before you repented—He loved you.
✔ Before you turned to Him—He loved you.
✔ Even when you were running from Him—He loved you.
His love isn’t based on our performance—it’s based on His grace.
Ephesians 2:4-5 (KJV) says:
“But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved).”
Even in our brokenness, He reached out to save us. That’s real love.
3. Christ Died for Us: The Ultimate Sacrifice
“Christ died for us.”
Jesus didn’t just talk about love—He demonstrated it by laying down His life. The cross was the greatest act of love in history.
Think about it:
- He didn’t die for good people.
- He didn’t die for those who deserved it.
- He died for sinners—for you and me.
This is the heart of the Gospel: Jesus took our place.
1 John 4:9-10 (KJV) says:
“In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”
His death wasn’t just an act of sacrifice—it was an act of love.
