Have you ever felt unqualified for something God is calling you to do? Maybe you’ve doubted your abilities, feared failure, or felt like someone else would be better suited for the task. Moses felt the same way.
When God called Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, Moses’ immediate response was excuses. He focused on his weaknesses, but God didn’t entertain his doubts—He simply told him to go.
📖 Exodus 4:10-12 (KJV)
“And Moses said unto the Lord, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue. And the Lord said unto him, Who hath made man’s mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the Lord? Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.”
Moses wasn’t the strongest speaker, but God didn’t call him because of his skill—He called him because of His plan. And when God calls, He also equips.
When We Feel Unqualified, God Reminds Us Who He Is
1. Excuses Don’t Change God’s Calling
Moses tried to convince God that he wasn’t the right person:
❌ “I am not eloquent.” (v.10)
❌ “I am slow of speech.” (v.10)
❌ “Send someone else.” (v.13)
But God didn’t back down. He reminded Moses that He is the one who created his mouth, his abilities, and his purpose.
📖 Jeremiah 1:6-7 (KJV)
“Then said I, Ah, Lord God! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child. But the Lord said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee.”
✔ When God calls you, stop making excuses.
✔ Your weaknesses don’t limit God’s power.
✔ God isn’t asking for your ability—He’s asking for your obedience.
2. God Provides What We Lack
Moses thought his speech problem disqualified him, but God was never depending on Moses’ ability in the first place.
📖 2 Corinthians 12:9 (KJV)
“My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”
✔ Where you are weak, God is strong.
✔ He will equip you as you step out in faith.
✔ You don’t need confidence in yourself—just confidence in God.
3. When God Says “Go,” Trust Him
God didn’t ask Moses to have everything figured out. He simply said, “Go, and I will be with thy mouth.”
📖 Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV)
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
✔ Stop overthinking—just obey.
✔ Trust that God will give you the words, the wisdom, and the strength.
✔ Your faith grows when you step out, not when you stay in your comfort zone.
What Is God Asking You to Do?
Like Moses, you might feel unqualified, afraid, or unsure. But God is simply saying, “Go.”
📖 Exodus 3:12 (KJV)
“Certainly I will be with thee.”
Whatever God is calling you to—ministry, a new opportunity, sharing your faith, or leading others—know that He will be with you. He doesn’t need your perfection. He just needs your obedience.
So, what’s holding you back? Trust Him, take the first step, and just go.
