We often hear the phrase: “Life is short, enjoy it.” And while there’s truth in enjoying the blessings of life, there’s a sobering truth we often forget: “Eternity is coming, prepare for it.”
Life here is a vapor. Eternity is forever. The question is not if you will face eternity, but where you will spend it. That makes this the most important question you will ever answer: How do you prepare for eternity with God?
Life Is Short—Eternity Is Forever
James 4:14 reminds us, “For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away” (KJV).
Think about it. Every achievement, every possession, every moment of pleasure in this life eventually fades. But eternity never ends. That’s why Jesus warned us: “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Matthew 16:26, KJV).
Preparing for Eternity Begins with Jesus
The first and most essential step in preparing for eternity with God is salvation through Jesus Christ.
- Believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died for your sins and rose again (John 3:16).
- Repent by turning away from sin and surrendering your life to Him (Acts 3:19).
- Follow Him daily, picking up your cross, and living out your faith (Luke 9:23).
Eternity with God isn’t earned through good deeds—it’s received through faith in Christ.
Living with Eternity in Mind
Once you’ve surrendered to Christ, preparing for eternity becomes a lifestyle:
- Pursue Holiness. Live a life that reflects God’s Word, not the world’s ways.
- Love Others. Jesus said love is the greatest commandment (Matthew 22:37–39).
- Store Treasures in Heaven. Use your time, talent, and resources for God’s kingdom (Matthew 6:19–20).
- Stay Ready. Jesus is coming again, and His return will be sudden (Matthew 24:44).
The Danger of Forgetting Eternity
The world shouts: “Life is short, enjoy it.” But the gospel whispers: “Eternity is coming, prepare for it.”
When we live only for today, we miss the bigger picture. Comfort, money, popularity—none of it will matter a hundred years from now. What will matter is whether your soul was anchored in Christ.
A Choice That Lasts Forever
Friend, eternity is not a distant concept—it is your next reality. Life is short, but eternity is forever. Don’t waste your days chasing what doesn’t last.
Ask yourself today: Am I prepared for eternity with God?
The good news is this—you can be. Right now. Through Jesus Christ, your eternity can be secure.
“And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life” (1 John 2:25, KJV).
Choose Christ. Live for Him. Prepare for eternity—because forever is far too long to get wrong.
