In a world where words often speak louder than actions, it’s easy to say, “I love God,” but much harder to live it out. Yet Scripture reminds us: love for God is not proven by our lips—it’s proven by our obedience.
📖 1 John 2:4-5 (KJV)
“He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.”
That’s strong language. But it’s not meant to shame us—it’s meant to call us higher.
Saying You Know God Isn’t Enough
It’s one thing to claim a relationship with God. It’s another thing entirely to live like it. The apostle John makes it clear: if someone says they know God but doesn’t obey Him, their words are empty. Real love for God changes how we live.
That doesn’t mean perfection—but it does mean direction.
True believers aren’t perfect people, but we are pursuing God. His Word matters to us. His commands aren’t optional—they are personal.
Obedience Is a Sign of Love, Not Legalism
Some people hear the word “obedience” and immediately think of rules, restrictions, or religion without relationship. But in God’s kingdom, obedience isn’t about legalism—it’s about love.
📖 John 14:15 (KJV)
“If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
When you love someone, you care about what matters to them. You prioritize their heart. And the more we love God, the more we’ll want to honor Him—not just with church attendance or Christian phrases, but with real-life surrender.
The Love of God Perfected in You
1 John 2:5 goes on to say, “whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected.” That means when we walk in obedience, we’re not just proving our love for God—His love is also maturing in us.
Obedience grows us. It changes us. It roots us deeper in Him.
The more we live by His Word, the more His love transforms us from the inside out.
How Do You Know You’re Really in Him?
Not by how loud you worship. Not by how many Christian quotes you share. But by how faithfully you walk in His Word.
“Hereby know we that we are in him.”
Your obedience is the evidence.
It’s not about being perfect—it’s about being real. Real faith. Real love. Real surrender.
A Heart Check for Today
Ask yourself:
- Do I say I love God, but live my own way?
- Am I obeying out of fear—or out of love?
- Is there any area of my life where I’m resisting His Word?
Let this be a gentle, holy reminder: loving God means obeying Him. Not out of pressure, but out of passion. Not just in public, but in private. Because the deepest proof of our love isn’t what we say—it’s how we live.
📖 1 Samuel 15:22 (KJV)
“Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice…”
So today, let’s not just say we love God. Let’s live like it. Let’s walk in His Word, grow in His love, and show the world what it truly means to know Him.
