Give God your best!

We live in a world that applauds excellence in sports, business, and academics. We strive for awards, recognition, and personal milestones. But when it comes to our faith, do we bring the same kind of passion, energy, and excellence? God doesn’t demand perfection—but He desires our best.

The Heart of the Offering

In Genesis 4:3–5, we’re introduced to two brothers, Cain and Abel:

“And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord. And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering: But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect.”
—Genesis 4:3–5 (KJV)

At first glance, both Cain and Abel brought something to God. But the difference was in the quality and heart behind it. Abel brought the first and best—the choicest portions, showing reverence and love. Cain, on the other hand, offered something from his harvest, but not necessarily his best.

It’s Not About the Gift, But the Giver’s Heart

God doesn’t look at the surface of what we give—He looks at our heart behind the offering. He saw that Abel brought his offering with a heart of devotion, while Cain’s was done out of obligation or routine. This principle extends beyond material offerings—it applies to our time, energy, talents, and daily choices.

When we serve, are we distracted or present?
When we worship, are we thinking about lunch or genuinely adoring God?
When we work, do we do it as unto the Lord, or only to impress others?

Bringing Our Best Isn’t About Earning Love

God already loves us unconditionally. Bringing our best isn’t about earning His affection—it’s our response to His love. It’s a form of worship, a declaration that He is worthy of our everything.

As Colossians 3:23 says:

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.”

Leave It All on the Field

In sports, the phrase “leave it all on the field” means to give everything you’ve got, with nothing held back. That’s the attitude God wants from His people—not perfection, but wholehearted devotion.

Whatever season you’re in—whether you’re raising kids, studying, working, or resting—bring your best. Even small, faithful acts done with the right heart matter deeply to God.

A Better Offering Starts with the Heart

God wants your heart more than anything. Let’s be like Abel, who gave out of love, reverence, and joy—not because he had to, but because he wanted to. Let your life be an offering that says, “Lord, You’re worth it all.”
